2024 NEET controversy

The announcement of the results prompted nationwide concern due to inconsistencies, including some candidates receiving 'impossible' scores and an unusual increase in the number of applicants scoring full marks. There were allegations of unfair practices and a suspected paper leak.

The suspicions of a paper leak grew when the NEET results were announced 10 days before the deadline specified in the NTA's information bulletin, which coincided with the publication of the 2024 Indian general election. The NTA also revealed the NEET-UG scores just hours after it issued the official Answer Key.

In a merit list provided by the NTA, 67 candidates obtained the same top score, with the previous highest total being 3 candidates in 2021. Despite complaints, no explanation has been provided for this. Eight of the individuals who received perfect scores came from a single exam centre in Jhajjar, Haryana. Several applicants obtained marks that were technically unattainable under the answer grid as a result of earning grace marks.

One instance of this occurred as a result of an error in older versions of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbook. When 10,000 candidates challenged the answer sheet, the NTA gave grace marks to those who followed the textbook. 44 of the top candidates were assisted by this decision.

Let's not jeopardise the young Indian's career. They all have great Dreams.

Essentially, the government should have limited or reduced candidates' fear, which is crucial for creating trust and assurance. Confidence-building measures (CBMs) would have alleviated worry and mistrust by making the government's actions more predictable. The government should have taken these efforts to assist in alleviating tensions between the candidates and prevent the escalation.
